Pedol Peris/Peris Horseshoe Mountain Race 2012
The Welsh Fell Runners Association class this beast of a race as an AL or A Long. They were right it took me 'A Long' time to get round, a very long time. Almost six hours. G Bland can relax again, his record time of 3:02 is safe for another year. I am not sure how much longer than six hours it took, I forgot to stop my watch, again (again pronounced as F. Gump would say it ' agaaaayn').
Race classification, times, distance, ascent and descent are only part of the story. Anyone who runs, or spends time in the hills can tell you that. What facts and figures can't do is tell what a fantastic race the Peris is. It has got all you could want from a fell race. Stunning route, slick organisation, friendly atmosphere and most importantly a commemorative mug.

Thanks to the guy with a Welsh Dragon Buff, for sharing his local knowledge and for not laughing at my pronunciation of Cynghorion

Thanks for dragging me round lads. Your company was much appreciated.
No more photos. Dummy well and truly spat somewhere between Y Lliwedd and Yr Wyddfa. Teddy got hurled from the pram coming off Moel Cynghorion.
A very big thank you to Mike Blake and all who made the race happen. Special mention to the marshalls that were up in the clag and whoever made the carrot and coriander soup.
More photos Here and a few more from stalwart Alastair Tye
Great pics. looks like a cracking course. one for the wish list!
ReplyDeleteGo for it Adam, you wont regret it.
DeleteSee you there next year.
I didn't notice you spit your dummy out, although the conversation did dry up near the end! Good to meet you Steve and look forward to meeting again. Tour of Pendle anyone?
ReplyDeleteStefan.
Crying on the inside.
DeleteHopefully we can catch up again soon. I am seriously thinking about joining Pennine.
The press gang is on its way
DeletePat.
Ha ha! Good to meet you Pat.
DeleteBeautiful photographs!
ReplyDeleteand .... tough race!
Congratulations!
Thanks Toni
DeleteIt was probably the toughest one I have done but also one of the most enjoyable.
Lovely photos from a cracking bit of the world. The top shot makes my feet tingle (is that just me?)
ReplyDeleteTks Paul
DeleteIt leaves my feet terrified. They think I might make them do it again.
Glad you did it Steve. It really is an epic race. The second half is an absolute killer. There is just no let up. Even the grassy knoll at the end seems unfeasibly big. You need to have the right mental attitude to get round. If that means dummy out then so be it. In 2010 the only way we could get up Snowdon was with a stream of profanities. It's easier the second time around, although having said that, I am still having a great deal of trouble walking.
ReplyDeleteSee you soon.
John
Thanks John Me too
DeleteI think the second half would have been much more fun if we hadn't just done the 1st half.
Thinking about it it was more feeling sorry for myself than a full on dummy spit. It would have been a much longer and mardier race without the Pennine lads.
Sat here typing with an ice pack on me back. I blame you for encouraging me;)
All the best
Steve
no wonder it took you six hours..a few less photos and blands record might have been creeking ;)
ReplyDeleteHi UC
DeleteIt is just one of my many excuses for being slow.
